Tarique Rahman to attend first election rally in Sylhet on Jan 22

SYLHET, Jan 16, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to attend his first election rally of the upcoming general election in Sylhet on January 22. The rally will be held at the Sylhet Government Alia Madrasha ground.

The Sylhet and Sunamganj BNP units have been preparing for the event through regular meetings and distribution of leaflets. Local leaders visited the venue to review stage arrangements, security, crowd management, and traffic control, while providing instructions to ensure the rally runs smoothly.

BNP candidate for Sylhet-4, Ariful Huq Chowdhury, described the rally as a significant moment in the movement for the restoration of democracy. He emphasized that the party is championing the voting rights of the people under Tarique Rahman's leadership and expressed hope that citizens of Sylhet will participate enthusiastically.

Abdul Quiyum Chowdhury, president of Sylhet district BNP, said the district has made full preparations for Tarique Rahman's visit, with special attention to holding the rally peacefully and in an orderly manner. Rezaul Hasan Quayes Lodi, acting president of Sylhet city BNP, added that the event is not only an election campaign but also a strong symbol of the party's anti-fascist movement.

Tarique Rahman is expected to arrive in Sylhet by air on the night of January 21. On the morning of January 22, he will visit the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) before addressing the public rally at 11:00 am at the Alia Madrasha ground. 

After the rally, he will return to Dhaka by road, stopping in Sherpur and Sayesthaganj in Hobiganj to address separate rallies and formally introduce BNP candidates to the public.
