DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS)- The 163rd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda
was observed today at Dhaka University (DU) through a day-long programme
marked by floral tributes, garlanding, special prayers and discussions.
On the occasion of Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary, flowers were
offered at the base of his sculpture at the Jagannath Hall of the
university.
Earlier, a discussion meeting on Swami Vivekananda's life and philosophy was
held yesterday at the meeting room of Rabindra Bhaban of the university's
Jagannath Hall.
Bangladesh Vivekananda Shiksha O Sangskriti Parishad and its DU unit jointly
organised the anniversary observance.
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed attended the
discussion as the chief guest with President of Bangladesh Vivekananda
Shiksha O Sangskriti Parishad Prof Dr Paritosh Mandal in the chair.
"One of the key aspects of Swami Vivekananda's life and philosophy was
interfaith harmony and brotherhood. Harmony among people of different
religions, colours, castes and genders can be strengthened through practicing
his philosophy," Dr Mamun said.
Jagannath Hall Provost Debashish Pal, Prof Dr Tapas Kumar Biswas of the
Institute of Education and Research, Prof Dr Shimul Haldar of the Philosophy
Department, and Prof Dr Mithun Sarkar of the Applied Chemistry and Chemical
Engineering Department were present at the event, among others.
At the programme, Vivekananda scholarships were awarded to 20 students of
Dhaka University. The cover of the annual magazine 'Gyandip' was also
unveiled, while educational materials and winter clothes were distributed
among students of Vivekananda Vidyalaya and children of Jagannath Hall staff.
