MYMENSINGH, Jan 9, 2026 (BSS) - Scopus, an internationally recognized database for evaluating the quality and impact of scientific research, has announced the list of the top 10 researchers of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) for 2025.
The information was disclosed on Friday by Professor Dr. Md. Golzar Hossain of the Department of Microbiology and Hygiene at the university [BAU].
According to the rankings published in January 2026, nine teachers and one former student of BAU have been selected based on the number of research papers published in high-quality, Scopus-indexed journals during 2025. Similar to the previous year, the list includes nine faculty members and one alumnus, with four teachers and one former student making their debut on the list this year.
Scopus and Web of Science are globally acknowledged platforms that assess and index scientific journals based on strict quality standards. Research papers published in journals indexed by these databases are considered internationally recognized. Each researcher listed in Scopus is assigned a unique Scopus ID, which stores verified information on their publications and research activities for specific periods.
According to the Scopus database, the top 10 researchers of BAU for 2025 are: Prof Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzul Haque, Department of Aquaculture, Prof Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam, Department of Agribusiness and Marketing, Prof Dr. Md. Golzar Hossain, Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, Prof Dr. Ismat Ara Begum, Department of Agricultural Economics, Prof Dr. Md. Tanvir Rahman, Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, Professor Dr. Sukumar Saha, Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, Nusrat Jahan, former student, Department of Environmental Science, Prof Dr. Chayan Kumar Saha, Department of Farm Power and Machinery, Prof Dr. AKM Adham and Associate Prof Dr. Md. Touhidul Islam, Department of Irrigation and Water Management.
Expressing his reaction, Prof Dr. Md. Golzar Hossain said conducting research alongside academic responsibilities is a vital duty of university teachers. Scientific publications and patents are key indicators of a researcher's success, he added.
"It is a great honor for me to rank third in terms of Scopus-indexed publications in 2025 among more than 600 teachers of one of the largest agricultural universities in Bangladesh," he continued.
He also expressed gratitude to his research team, colleagues, research associates, funding agencies, BAU authorities, and family members for their support.
He congratulated all those included in the list and expressed hope that their collective research efforts would further enhance the global ranking of the university.
It is noteworthy that the number of publications in Scopus-indexed journals is a crucial indicator in determining global university rankings. In many international ranking systems, more than half of the total score is derived directly from data collected from the Scopus database.
