FENI, Jan 8, 2026 (BSS) - A Quran recitation, doa and Qulkhawani were held today at Sreepur village in Fulgazi upazila, the ancestral home of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia seeking eternal peace of her departed soul.
Organised by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the programme took place from morning until 3:00 pm in the courtyard of Boro Majumdar's house at the village. On the occasion, foods were provided to around 1,000 people.
The event was chaired by Rafiqul Alam Majnu, BNP-nominated candidate for the Feni-1 constituency, and moderated by Fulgazi Upazila BNP Member Secretary Abul Hossain Bhuiyan.
BNP Vice Chairman and Feni-3 BNP-nominated candidate Abdul Awal Mintu attended the programme as the chief guest.
Among others, the event was joined by BNP Chairperson's adviser and Feni-2 BNP-nominated candidate Professor Joynal Abedin VP, BNP National Committee Member Abu Taleb, Feni District BNP Convener Sheikh Farid Bahar, District BNP Joint Convener Anwar Hossain Patwari, Fulgazi Upazila BNP Convener Fakhrul Alam Swapan, Parashuram Upazila BNP Convener Abdul Halim, Chhagalnaiya Upazila BNP Convener Nur Ahmed, Zahid Hossain Majumder, Shamim Majumder, and leaders of BNP's affiliated and associate organisations, along with family members.
Mufti Jobair Hossain led the prayers and supplications.
Speaking briefly on the occasion, Abdul Awal Mintu said Begum Khaleda Zia's role in the struggle to restore democracy in Bangladesh would remain unforgettable.
She always prioritised national interests over personal power and comfort, he said, adding that her contribution to the development of Feni would be remembered forever.
