Legal Aid recovers TK 314 cr compensation for insolvent litigants

DHAKA, Dec 20, 2025 (BSS) – Over Taka 314 crore has been recovered as compensation in favour of insolvent litigants through the National Legal Aid Services Organization.

“A total of TK 314 crore 42 lakh 61 thousand 461 has been recovered in pre-case and post-case compensation in favour of insolvent litigants,” according to a report published on the website of the organization.

The report outlined detailed data on legal assistance provided through Legal Aid from 2009 to November 2025.

According to the report, Tk 307 crore 45 lakh 49 thousand 545 was recovered through Legal Aid offices in 64 districts, while Tk 6 crore 97 lakh 11 thousand 916 was recovered through the Labour Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

From 2009 to November 2025, a total of 13 lakh 55 thousand 423 beneficiaries received government-funded legal assistance under the National Legal Aid Services Organization.

The legal aid services are currently being provided through 64 district Legal Aid offices, the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, Labour Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram, and the National Legal Aid Helpline Call Centre (toll-free 16699).

To ensure access to justice for financially insolvent and disadvantaged litigants, legal aid services are provided at government expense under the Legal Aid Services Act. 

The activities of the National Legal Aid Services Organization are being implemented under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

Initially, the legal aid services were introduced at the district level to serve underprivileged communities. Later, the services were expanded to include the Supreme Court, Labour Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram, and legal aid services in prisons across the country.
