133,473 prisoners so far received Legal Aid assistance

DHAKA, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS)-The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has so far provided government-funded legal assistance to 133,473 prisoners across the country from 2009 to October 2025.

The information was disclosed in the latest report published on the organization's website. According to the report, the total number of beneficiaries under Legal Aid services for the underprivileged and justice-seekers has reached 1,330,161.

Legal aid activities initially began at the district level, but the services have since expanded nationwide through Legal Aid Offices in all 64 districts, the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, Workers' Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram, and the National Helpline Call Center (toll-free: 16699).

The report states that 29,912 people received services through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 1,077,803 through the 64 District Legal Aid Offices, 29,744 through the Workers' Legal Aid Cells, and 192,702 through the National Helpline Call Center.

It further noted that NLASO has been providing free legal assistance to financially disadvantaged, helpless, and insolvent justice-seekers under the Legal Aid Services Act, 2000.

The organization operates as a government-regulated service body under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
