Tight security over Shaheed Osman Hadi's Janaza in Dhaka

DHAKA, Dec 20, 2025 (BSS) - The government has taken heightened security measures for the Namaz-e-Janaza of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, deploying police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and other law enforcement agencies across key areas of Dhaka.

Twenty platoons of BGB, equipped with body-worn cameras and riot control gear, have been deployed at the National Parliament Building and important areas of the capital to maintain overall law and order around the funeral of Osman Hadi.

Hadi's body was flown back from Singapore and arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5:45pm on Friday.

Security was reinforced at the airport, and the coffin was transferred through Hangar Gate No. 8 before being taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases mortuary, where it was kept overnight.

According to the Chief Adviser's Office, the funeral prayer will be held at 2pm on Saturday at the south plaza of the National Parliament Building, following Zuhr prayers.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police deployed a large contingent, including 1,000 body-worn cameras, while drones and bags have been prohibited in and around the parliament complex.

In a Facebook post, Inqilab Moncho said, based on the family's request, Hadi will be buried beside Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam near Dhaka University central mosque.

The interim government has declared Saturday a day of state mourning.

Sharif Osman Hadi was shot on December 12 while he was on a battery-run auto-rickshaw in the city's Purana Paltan area and later died in Singapore while undergoing treatment.
