French Ambassador meets Bangladesh IGP to discuss enhanced police cooperation

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS) – French Ambassador Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam at Police Headquarters today.

The meeting, held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Bangladesh Police and the French National Police and Gendarmerie.

During the discussion, the IGP highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall capacity of the Bangladesh Police. He noted that, ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary elections, police personnel are receiving intensive and practical training.

Alam also emphasized the use of modern technology to maintain law and order during the electoral process. To ensure safety during the election period, he stated that special protocols have been implemented for foreign observers and members of diplomatic missions.

He expressed confidence that international observers would be able to carry out their duties smoothly, supported by the professionalism and robust security arrangements of the Bangladesh Police.

Ambassador Séré-Charlet expressed France’s interest in expanding cooperation in areas such as counter-terrorism, cyber security, criminal investigation, specialized training, and institutional capacity building. He reaffirmed France’s willingness to provide technical support, knowledge exchange, and joint initiatives in the security sector.

The meeting also touched upon possible collaboration in promoting human rights-based policing, democratic policing principles, and the rule of law.

Senior officials of the Bangladesh Police were present during the meeting.
