JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Dec 8, 2025 (BSS) - A workshop titled ‘July Uprising 2024: An Overview of Oral History Archive’ was held today at the seminar room of Wazed Miah Science Research Centre of Jahangirnagar University at 11 am.
Vice-Chancellor of JU Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan attended the programme as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the VC said, “The history of the 1971 Liberation War was not properly preserved, leading to various misinterpretations, and as a result, the true spirit of sacrifice could not influence the nation.”
Emphasizing the need for accurate historical preservation, he said the establishment of an oral history archive is crucial, as people from all walks of life, including those lacking literacy, participated in the 2024 mass uprising. In the age of digital technology, oral history can make history accessible to everyone, he noted.
The workshop was presided over by Associate Professor of the Archaeology Department and project director KamrunNesaKhondokar.
JU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. M. Mahfuzur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr.Sohel Ahmed, Treasurer Professor Dr. M. AbdurRab, acting Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Professor Dr. Md. ShamsulAlam, Professor Dr. Syed Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan of the Archaeology Department, Provost Committee President Professor Dr.Abeda Sultana, Director of Wazed Miah Science Research Centre Professor Dr. Md. Monwar Hossain, JU Proctor Professor Dr. A.K.M. RashidulAlam, Dr. Muhammad Sajedul Islam of Netrakona University, and DUET Lecturer Md. Mamunur Rashid also spoke at the event.
Teachers and students of different departments of the university, UNDP National Consultant Md. Shahadat Hossain, and The Business Standard journalist Md. Belal Hossain, among others, attended the programme.
