DHAKA, Nov 26, 2025 (BSS) - A seminar on innovative assessment methods for primary school students was held at the auditorium of the Directorate of Primary Education in the city today.
Primary and Mass Education Advisor Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar addressed the seminar as the chief guest organized by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
Education Advisor Professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Executive Director of Campaign for Popular Education Rasheda K Chowdhury, Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Abu Noor Md. Shamsuzzaman spoke as special guests at the event with Primary and Mass Education Secretary Abu Taher Md Masud Rana in the chair.
The seminar discussed the 'Shantiganj Model' invented by Shantiganj Upazila Executive Officer Sukanta Saha.
The model of creating a competitive spirit among teachers and students and making children school-oriented has been recognized as the 'Shantiganj Model'. Through this, students of the fourth and fifth grades are evaluated. Teachers are also indirectly evaluated based on the results of the students.
This special quality improvement test and ranking system has created a competitive environment in Sunamganj.
In addition, it is making an important contribution to preventing the dropout rate by ensuring regular attendance of students in school, ensuring 80 percent participation in the test, overcoming subject-based weaknesses, and improving the quality of education.
Praising the ‘Shantiganj Model’, Primary and Mass Education Advisor Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar said that this step taken to improve the quality of primary education in Sunamganj is a very commendable initiative.
The ranking system of schools is truly an exceptional system. “I think that if this initiative can be spread across the country, there will be a revolutionary change in the field of primary education,” he added.
Education Advisor Professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar said that emphasis should be placed on practical steps to improve the quality of education. There is no other way to overcome the long-standing concern about the quality of education except through realistic and honest evaluation.
