Dhaka, Ankara vow deeper strategic partnership cooperation

ANKARA, March 14, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka and Ankara today reiterated their commitment to deepening the strategic partnership between Turkiye and Bangladesh, as the foreign ministers of the two countries held bilateral talks covering the entire spectrum of cooperation.

The meeting took place at the office of Turkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman.
Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kabir was also present, said foreign ministry's press release here. 

This was the first bilateral meeting between the two foreign ministers following the formation of the newly elected government in Bangladesh.

During the talks, the two sides reviewed the full range of bilateral relations and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Turkiye reiterated its commitment to maintaining friendly and brotherly relations with Bangladesh in both bilateral and multilateral forums. 

The Turkish foreign minister expressed unequivocal support for Bangladesh's candidature for the Presidency of the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Both sides expressed optimism that the outcomes of the meeting would further strengthen cooperation and deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries in the years ahead.

The Bangladesh foreign minister highlighted the importance of increasing Turkish foreign investment in Bangladesh and underscored the potential for expanding the export of skilled human resources from Bangladesh to Turkiye.

Following the meeting, the two ministers held a joint press briefing, reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries.

They also exchanged views on regional and international issues, including the situation in Gaza, and expressed their shared commitment to working together in support of peace efforts.

To enhance institutional cooperation in diplomatic training and capacity building, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Diplomacy Academy of Turkiye and the Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy during the meeting.

In honour of the visiting Bangladesh delegation, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan hosted an iftar and working dinner, where both sides continued discussions on various aspects of bilateral cooperation.
