DHAKA, Nov 16, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) Chairman Professor Dr Mobasser Monem today said it is now essential to modernize the syllabus and question structure of the BCS examination to develop capable, creative, and skilled human resources.
He made the remarks at the “Consultation Workshop on BCS Syllabus and Question Pattern”, jointly organized by the Bangladesh Public Service Commission and UNDP at BPSC in the capital’s Agargaon.
The BPSC chairman said a syllabus and question framework currently exists for recruitment to the civil service through the BPSC.
Noting that research is ongoing regarding the BCS syllabus, he said findings from these studies show that some parts of the syllabus are unnecessary, some parts are unclear, and some sections are excessively long—failing to provide proper guidance for candidates’ preparation. Therefore, revising the syllabus has become a necessity, he said.
A quality syllabus will be developed by aligning knowledge and skills with the national curriculum to recommend recruitment to the Bangladesh Civil Service based on merit and competence, he said.
In the workshop, experts on concerned subjects have put forward various recommendations to make the syllabus internationally comparable, modern, transparent, and relevant.
Discussants emphasized the need for developing such a syllabus that will be suitable for recommending recruitment to the Bangladesh Civil Service and also help develop competencies for other recruitment processes as well.
The Chairman expressed the hope that necessary policy decisions will be taken upon reviewing the opinions and recommendations presented at the workshop. Members of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, representatives of UNDP, and officials concerned were present at the event.
