DHAKA, Nov 02, 2025 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) has restored the registration of the Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (JAGPA), along with its electoral symbol, 'Hukka' following a directive from the court.
This information was revealed today through a circular signed by Akhtar Ahmed, the Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat.
The restoration comes after the High Court Division issued a verdict on March 19, 2025, which declared the EC’s prior proclamation—dated January 28, 2021—void. The 2021 proclamation had initially led to the cancellation of the party’s registration.
Following the High Court’s ruling in the related Writ Petition (No. 7776/2021), the Election Commission cancelled its 2021 proclamation concerning the revocation of registration. Consequently, JAGPA has had its registration reinstated, including the ‘Hukka’ party symbol.
According to the EC's proclamation, the party was originally registered on November 20, 2008, under the Representation of the People Order (RPO), receiving the name Jatiya Ganatantrik Party, Registration No. 036, and the 'Hukka' symbol.
The party's name was subsequently amended to 'Jatiya Ganatantrik Party- JAGPA,' and a revised certificate was issued on July 24, 2014.
