German Ambassador meets Commerce Adviser

DHAKA, Oct 7, 2025 (BSS) - Newly-appointed Ambassador of Germany to 
Bangladesh Dr. Rüdiger Lotz met Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at his office at 
Bangladesh Secretariat here today.

During the meeting, both sides discussed in detail various aspects of 
bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and 
Germany.

The Commerce Adviser said that Bangladesh and Germany enjoy excellent 
bilateral trade relations. "To further strengthen this relationship, 
diversification of trade between the two countries is necessary, which will 
create mutual benefits for both sides," he said.

Bashir mentioned that after the United States, Germany is Bangladesh's 
second-largest export destination, accounting for 10.96 percent of the 
country's total export earnings. 

The Adviser also urged German importers to import more products from 
Bangladesh, including ready-made garments, home textiles, pharmaceuticals, 
plastic goods, footwear, bicycles, and leather products, said a Commerce 
Ministry press release.

Dr. Rüdiger Lotz said that Germany is keen to work together to enhance trade 
relations with Bangladesh. His country would continue to strengthen the 
ongoing initiatives to promote economic cooperation and advance the process 
of trade diversification, he added. 

The German envoy also commended Bangladesh's growing economic capacity.

It may be noted that during the fiscal year 2023-2024, Bangladesh exported 
goods worth US$4,850.89 million to Germany and imported goods worth US$940.60 
million from it.

Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman and Deputy Head of Mission of the German 
Embassy Enza Kristen were also present at the meeting.
