DHAKA, Sept 21, (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said the members of law enforcement agencies will be deployed from September 24 for ensuring peaceful and festive celebrations of the Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community.
"We will deploy the law enforcement agencies from September 24 for peaceful and festive celebrations of the Durga Puja," he said while talking to journalists, emerging from the 14th meeting of the advisory council committee on law and order at Home Ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat here.
Police, RAB and other law enforcement agencies are now patrolling on the roads, he said, adding that seven volunteers appointed by the respective puja committee are now safeguarding each of the puja mandaps.
The Home Adviser said the Women and Children Affairs Ministry will deploy 80,000 volunteers at the puja mandaps across the country.
"I hope the Dura Puja will be celebrated in a better way this time," he said.
Replying to a question from journalists about vandalism of puja mandaps, Jahangir said one or two such incidents had happened.
"But legal actions have been taken immediately after the incidents took place," he added.
The Home Adviser asked the authorities concerned to bring the puja mandaps under the CCTV coverage and maintain religious sanctity of the festival.
