DHAKA, Sept 21, (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir
Alam Chowdhury today said they are in hot pursuit to stop smuggling of
fertiliser and rice out of the country alongside entering drugs into the
country.

"On one hand, drugs are entering the country and fertiliser also, and on the
other hand, rice, fertiliser and medicines are being smuggled out of the
country. We are taking tougher measures as the rice and fertiliser can't be
smuggled out of the country alongside the drugs inflow," he said.

The adviser made the remarks while speaking to the journalists after coming
out of the 14th meeting on law and order of the advisory council at the Home
Ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat here.

Describing the drug abuse as the main problems of the country, he said the
drug inflow would have to stop in any way.

"We have to stop drug smuggling into the country in any way," Jahangir Alam
Chowdhury continued.

He said the rice and fertiliser are smuggled out of the country not only
through Chattogram or Cox's Bazar, but also along the Patuakhali, Barguna and
Bhola districts.

"As the rice and fertiliser are smuggling out of the country on marine ways,
we have already asked the Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Coast Guard to look
into the matter," he said.

"We will take every possible measure as rice and fertiliser can't be smuggled
out of the country," the home adviser added.
