DHAKA, Sept 13, 2025 (BSS) - Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid has sought cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the Halal certification activities in Bangladesh.

He sought this cooperation while exchanging views with the officials after visiting the 'Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) Centre' in Islamabad in Pakistan on Thursday.

The adviser said that the Islamic Foundation of Bangladesh has been working on Halal Certification and concerned authorities of Turkey and Saudi Arabia have been providing cooperation in this regard. 

He requested the OIC to extend their technical cooperation for increasing the efficiency of Bangladeshi officials in this regard. 

He also extended his support to set up a Halal Institute in Uganda under the guidance of the OIC.

Dr Khalid thanked the ministerial committee of the OIC for its role in bringing dynamism in the development of science, technology, artificial intelligence, environment, climate change and poverty reduction in the Muslim world.

The Religious Affairs Adviser thanked the OIC for granting 100 scholarships for the Bangladeshi students in Lahore University and said through the initiative, the Bangladeshi meritorious students will get the opportunities to take higher education in Pakistan. 

He expressed his hope that such scopes should be expanded in Pakistan for the Bangladesh madrasha students who have strong foundation in Quran and Hadith as they can contribute in medical, technology and engineering sectors.

Highlighting the importance of Islamic Ummah, Dr Khalid said, "We have to be united under the banner of Muslim Ummah for the greatest interest of Islam in accordance with directions of the Quran and Hadit."

"We could not be able to advance in the disparity without unity," he added.

Among others, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Md Iqbal Hossain Khan, Private Secretary to the adviser Sadek Ahmed, Counselor (Press) of the high commission Mohammad Taiyeb Ali and other officials concerned, accompanied with the adviser at that time.
