Dhaka, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) - Candidates of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD)-backed Abid-Hamim-Mayed panel in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections took oath today.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the historic Bot Tola premises adjacent to the Arts Building of Dhaka University at noon.
Vice-President candidate of the panel, Abidul Islam Khan, administered the oath to the panel members.
Taking the pledge, the panel vowed to build a safe, vibrant, and student-friendly campus, upholding the legacy of Dhaka University in the country's struggle for independence, democracy, and people's rights.
They pledged to resist the return of undemocratic practices, including the controversial "gonoroom" culture, guestroom torture, forced participation in political programs, and suppression of dissent.
The panel reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the spirit of past democratic movements, including the Liberation War of 1971, the anti-autocracy movement of 1990, and the 2024 July Uprising against authoritarianism.
They also pledged to ensure women's safety and empowerment on campus, fair distribution of hall seats through administrative channels, and provision of affordable meals, healthcare, proper waste management, and efficient transportation services for students.
To ensure a safer digital environment, the candidates committed to fighting cyberbullying, misinformation, and fake news.
The panel emphasized the need for modernization of university facilities through improved education and research standards, expansion of sports and cultural activities, and promotion of career-oriented initiatives.
They also vowed to uphold democratic norms, mutual respect, and courtesy in DUCSU's political landscape, ensuring respectful engagement even with political opponents.
Concluding the ceremony, the candidates pledged to maintain transparency and accountability if elected, and urged students to support their panel for a dignified and inclusive campus environment.
