Badruddin Umar engaged in politics for people's interest till death: Fakhrul

DHAKA, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today expressed deep grief over the death of prominent writer, researcher and leftist intellectual Badruddin Umar saying he remained engaged in politics for the people's interest till his last breath.

"Badruddin Umar dedicated his life to politics and writing for the people," Fakhrul said in a message of condolence today.

"Badruddin was a fierce protester against corruption and political injustice. In today's socio-political context, the presence of a fearless, free-thinking intellectual like him was immensely needed," he added.

Paying tribute to the veteran intellectual, the BNP Secretary General said, "I am deeply saddened by the passing of writer, researcher, teacher and leftist intellectual Badruddin Umar. His writings inspired farmers, workers and all those fighting against exploitation, liberation and struggle.

 He authored numerous significant books on the historical struggles of the nation."

"Badruddin Umar led a simple, humble life and never deviated from his ideals. He was never a silent spectator to autocracy, but struck boldly at the roots of injustice through his words and writings," Fakhrul added.

He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members.

Badruddin Umar breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital at 10:05am today at the age of 94.
 
He was born on December 20, 1931 in Bardhaman of India.
