DHAKA, July 22, 2025 (BSS) – Primary education department has postponed July uprising programmes in the country’s primary schools on July 24 due to casualties following the crash of a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet on the premises of Milestone College in Uttara.

Assistant Director of Department of Primary Education Mohammad Nazrul Islam issued a letter saying that all programmes have been postponed.

He sent the letter to all district and upazila primary education offices on July 21. The decision will remain in force until further instructions, while the new date will be announced in due course.

The decision was taken in the wake of loss of lives in an aircraft crash yesterday at Milestone School and College in Uttara.

The programmes-2025 is scheduled to hold in all primary schools across the country on July 24 to commemorate the July martyrs and injured in the 2024 mass uprising.

Director General of Directorate of Primary Education Abu Nur Md Shamsuzzaman said that there are 65,569 government primary schools across the country. 

“Some children were martyred in the mass uprising of July-August last year. This initiative was taken in memory of the martyred children,” he said.

Shamsuzzaman also said that the department took many activities to keep the July contribution in mind. 

“One of these is to organize song, poetry, and dance and essay competition with participation of children in every primary school on July 24. Around one crore students were expected to participate in the programme,” he added.

In light of the directives, the government allocated Taka 2,500 to each school for the programme.
