RANGAMATI, July 15, 2025 (BSS) - The Kaptai Karnaphuli Hydropower Station is currently generating 218 MW of electricity, its highest output this season, due to increased water levels in Kaptai Lake following recent rainfall.
With the increase of water in Kaptai Lake, five units of the Kaptai Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant have become operational and electricity generation has increased.
Manager of Kaptai Karnaphuli Hydropower Station Engineer Mahmud Hasan confirmed to BSS that 218 MW of electricity is currently being generated as five units of the power plant are operational simultaneously due to the increase of water in Kaptai Lake.
Earlier, five units of this plant were made operational last Wednesday (July 9), through which a total of 212 MW of electricity was generated.
The maximum electricity generation capacity of this plant is 242 MW.
The water level in Kaptai Lake has continued to increase due to the rainfall in the district for several weeks, he said, adding: "So the power generation of this water-dependent power plant has also increased."
