DU calls applications for admission to M.Phil program

DHAKA, June 24, 2025 (BSS) - Applications in the specific form have been invited from interested candidates for admission to the Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) program of Dhaka University for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Applicants will have to select a supervisor from among the teachers of the concerned department or institute and submit the application form under him, said a press release received here today.

The application form can be downloaded from the university website till June 30. The admission form fee of Taka 1,000 should be submitted to Janata Bank TSC branch.

The application form should be duly filled and submitted to the office of the concerned department chairman or institute director by June 30. 

The original copy of the application fee receipt, attested photocopies of all examination certificates and mark sheets and one recent passport size photograph (attested) should be attached to the application form. A synopsis of the research should also be submitted.

Graduates (Honours) and Masters degree holders from public universities or UGC recognized private universities or foreign universities can apply directly to the M.Phil program subject to the prescribed conditions. 

MBBS or equivalent degree holders should apply under the concerned department. 

For admission, candidates should have a minimum of second division/class in every examination of their educational career and CGPA/GPA system should have at least 3.50 out of 5.00 or 3.00 out of 4.00 scale.

There is some relaxation in this score for candidates from the disabled, ethnic minorities and transgenders. 

There should be a minimum of second division/class in all examinations and at least 3.00 on a 5.00 scale and 2.50 on a 4.00 scale in the CGPA/GPA system. 

Candidates with degrees from foreign or private universities should apply to the Central Equality Assessment Committee (Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy) of Dhaka University and obtain an equivalence certificate before accepting applications.

Working candidates must join the M.Phil program with a one-year leave approval letter from their organization along with a no-objection letter. If the leave is not approved, registration will not be considered. 

In the case of DU teachers, although leave is not required, it is mandatory to obtain permission from the authorities. 

If an applicant is working in a higher educational institution or research institute, the Academic Council can relax the leave subject to the recommendation of the Academic Committee and faculty meeting of the concerned department.
