DHAKA, June 23, 2025 (BSS) - The High Court today gave an order asking the authorities concerned to take appropriate and necessary measures immediately to control mosquitoes in all areas the capital.

This order has been given to Dhaka north and south city corporations.

After the initial hearing of a writ in this regard, Justice Md. Habibul Gani and Justice Sk. Tahsin Ali passed the order along with the rule on Monday.

The Chief Executive Officers of the two city corporations have been asked to submit a report to the court within the next two months stating what measures have been taken regarding the order.

The rule also sought to know why the inaction or failure to control mosquito-borne diseases chikungunya, dengue and malaria in Dhaka will not be declared as beyond legal authority.

In addition, the rule also sought to know why appropriate and necessary measures will not be ordered to be taken immediately in all affected areas of Dhaka to control mosquitoes.

The respondents, including the local government secretary, the chief executive officers of Dhaka's two city corporations and the director general of the DGHS, have been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.

Supreme Court lawyer Md. Salequzzaman Sagar filed a writ petition in the HC last month seeking directions for necessary steps to control mosquitoes in areas affected by mosquito-borne diseases including dengue and chikungunya in Dhaka.

He himself stood in the court in favour of the writ petition. Deputy Attorney General Md. Mohaddes-ul-Islam and Mahfuz Bin Yusuf were present at the hearing for the state.
