NARAYANGANJ, June 9, 2025(BSS)- Home and Agriculture Adviser lieutenant general (Rtd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said that the government will soon enact a new law to protect the agricultural land for the interest of the farmers.
“The roads and highway department used to give three times compensation to the farmers for acquiring their lands but the local government engineering department don’t do that,” he said this while talking to journalists at Araihazar after visiting the Bangladesh Institute of Research and Training on Applied Nutrition (BIRTAN) here.
The adviser claimed that the farmers have produced additional 15 lakh metric tons of Boro paddy this year and for this reason, government may not need to import rice this year.
“The farmers also produced huge potatoes this year but they are not getting fair price, and the import of wheat, ginger and turmeric will be reduced in future as the farmers have been cultivating these crop to large extent .

The adviser said government has advanced 15 days from the scheduled time for procuring crops from the farmers for protecting them from the brokers.
He said corruption is a major problem in the country and many problems could be solved if the corruption is controlled.
Earlier, he visited Araihazar police station of the district and exchanged post Eid greetings with the police officials of the district.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner of Narayanganj Zahidul Islam, Superintendent of Police Prottus Kumar Majumder and Executive Director of BIRTAN Rahana Akther accompanied the adviser during the visit.
