DU to take actions against students enter halls forcefully

DHAKA, Oct 2, 2021 (BSS) - The Dhaka University (DU) authorities
have decided to take disciplinary action against the students who
entered different halls by breaking open lock and are staying without
prior permission.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the provost's
standing committee held this evening with Vice-Chancellor Dr Md
Akhtaruzzaman in the chair, said a press release.

"Concerned hall authorities have been asked to identify the people
involved with the untoward incidents through proper investigations and
submit reports with recommendations within seven days", said the
release.

Hall authorities have also been asked to serve show cause notices to
the students, who entered dormitories and are staying without prior
permission, asking them to reply within October 7 explaining why
punitive measures should not be taken against them for conducting
anti-disciplinary activities.

Dozens of students entered Amar Ekushey Hall breaking open its lock
around 2pm Friday, although the dormitories were scheduled to reopen
next week.

The university authorities decided to reopen the halls for master's
and honours final-year students on a limited scale from October 5 on
condition of taking at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccines.

Pro-VC (Administration) Dr Mohammad Samad, Pro-VC (Academic) ASM
Maksud Kamal, Treasurer Momtaj Uddin Ahmed, DU Proctor AKM Golam
Rabbani, provosts of different halls, among others were present in the
meeting.
