Covid-19 related casualties reach 1,200 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 3, 2021 (BSS) – The number of Covid-19 related casualties reached 1,200 as two more infected patients died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today in Rangpur division.

“The Covid-19 situation continues improving with a decreasing number of casualties and increasing recovery rate in the division in recent weeks,” Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The two new casualties were reported from Panchagarh district in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the 1,200 fatalities stands at 285 in Rangpur, 77 in Panchagarh, 86 in Nilphamari, 63 in Lalmonirhat, 66 in Kurigram, 242 in Thakurgaon, 319 in Dinajpur and 62 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the division.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 53,514 as 134 new patients were diagnosed after testing 994 samples of Rangpur division at the daily positivity rate of 13.48 percent on Thursday.

Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 12.04 percent on Wednesday, 12.08 percent on Tuesday, 16.05 percent on Monday, 11.66 percent on Sunday and 12.60 percent on Saturday last in the division.

“The district-wise break up of 53,514 patients stands at 12,161 in Rangpur, 3,514 in Panchagarh, 4,326 in Nilphamari, 2,677 in Lalmonirhat, 4,533 in Kurigram, 7,244 in Thakurgaon, 14,315 in Dinajpur and 4,744 in Gaibandha of the division,” he added.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said a total of 2,59,112 collected samples were tested till Thursday, and of them, 53,514 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 20.65 percent in the division.

In the meantime, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 48,449 with recovery of 172 more infected patients on Thursday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 90.54 percent.

The 48,449 recovered patients include 9,832 of Rangpur, 3,189 Panchagarh, 4,092 Nilphamari, 2,441 Lalmonirhat, 4,256 Kurigram, 6,387 Thakurgaon, 13,768 in Dinajpur and 4,484 Gaibandha districts in the division.

Among the 53,514 patients, 164 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 21 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 48,449 patients and 1,200 deaths while 3,701 are remaining now in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 19,73,140, and among them, 7,92,838 got the second dose of the jab till Thursday in the division,” Dr Islam added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged all citizens to abide by the health directives to maintain the improving trend of the Covid-19 situation.
