ISS prosecutor Karim Asad likely to visit Bangladesh

 
DHAKA, July 17, 2021 (BSS)- International Crimes Court Chief Prosecutor Karim Asad Ahmad Khan is likely to visit Bangladesh.
 
He has shown his keen interest to visit Bangladesh during a meeting with Bangladesh’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud at the International Crimes Court at The Hague in the Netherlands on Friday.
 
The Bangladesh flag has been hoisted at the International Crimes Court (ICC) marking the visit of Hasan, said a release received here today.
 
During the meeting, Khan, who has been appointed as the prosecutor last month for nine years, informed that they know about the support of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the work of establishing trial of ICC.
 
He (Khan) also recalled the strong role in signing the ‘Treaty of Rome’ for establishing the court in 1997.
 
Khan termed the sheltering of about 12 lakh Rohingyas in Bangladesh as generosity of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The investigation on the trial of Myanmar’s crimes on the Rohingyas issue is going on, he said.
 
Hasan also met with ICC Registrar Peter Lewis.
 
Later, the minister visited Digital Mass Media RNW office.

Director of the organization Saskia Bram welcomed the minister, the release added.
 
Bangladesh Ambassador to the Netherlands M Riaz Hamidullha accompanied the minister during the visits.
 
Later, Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, joined a discussion through online organized by All European Awami League marking the Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s imprisonment day.
 
The minister described the day as a democracy blocked day.
 
All European Awami League president M Nazrul Islam presided over the meeting while its general secretary Mujibur Rahman conducted it.
 
Hasan is expected to return home on July 18.
