DHAKA, Aug 30, 2026 (BSS)- Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today said the government is keen to take the existing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia to a new height.

He stressed the need for increasing cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including manpower export, renewable energy, infrastructure, education, health and trade.

Moyeen Khan made the remarks when Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohd Shuhada Othman called on him at the Secretariat here.

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam was present at the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Malaysian envoy mentioned the recent visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Malaysia and voiced satisfaction over the success of the visit.

Later, the two sides discussed manpower export from Bangladesh to Malaysia, registration of unregistered workers and creation of employment opportunities for Bangladeshi engineers in Malaysia.

The meeting also focused on the joint construction of hospitals by the two countries, expanding higher education opportunities for Bangladeshi students in Malaysia, investment in the renewable energy sector and cooperation in the production of sports goods.

They emphasized the need to further strengthen the economic relations between the two countries in various sectors, including electric vehicle imports, the construction sector and halal food.

During the meeting, both sides expressed interest in transforming the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia into a more effective economic partnership.

Local Government Division Secretary Md Shahidul Hassan and senior officials of the ministry were present at the meeting.
