Maritime ports asked to hoist signal No-3, riverports signal No-1

DHAKA, July 16, 2026 (BSS) - Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number 3 as a low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay.

The low-pressure area over Northwest Bay and adjoining North Odisha-West Bengal coast persists over the same area and it is likely to intensify.

Under its influence, squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, said a maritime warning message issued by Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.

Rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary south/southeasterly gusty/squally wind speed 45-60 kph is likely to occur over the regions of Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox's bazar wherein riverports shall hoist cautionary signal no one (R) one, said an inland riverport warning.
