Victims of Benapole Express fire in critical: Samanta Lal

DHAKA, Jan 6, 2024 (BSS) - Injured survivors of the deadly fire in Benapole Express train in the city's Gopibagh, who are now undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS), are in critical condition.

"None of all eight injured passengers is out of danger as their respiratory tracts were burnt in the incident," SHNIBPS coordinator Dr Samanta Lal Sen said at a press briefing today.

The eight injured survivors are: Asif Mohammod Khan (30), Dr Koushik Biswas (32), Nafis Alom (22), Masud Rana (31), Daizy Akter Ratna (40), Rihan (6), Md Iqbal (48) and Dihan (11).

Dr Sen said of the injured, Asif Mohammad Khan had 8 percent burns on his body and Nafiz Alam suffered 5 percent burns while remaining six received inhalation Injury and added that three of the injured people are undergoing treatment at High-Dependency Unit (HDU) of the SHNIBPS.

"Though the percentage of burn injury is lower, they are not out of danger as their respiratory tracts were burnt," he added.

On Friday night, the Benapole Express train was set on fire in the Gopibagh area of Sayedabad in the city, leaving four people, including two minors, dead in the incident.

The train was en route to the capital from Benapole.
