EU observers inspect distribution of polls materials in Bogura

BOGURA, Feb 11, 2026 (BSS) - A team of election observers of the European Union today inspected the distribution of election materials in Bogura ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and the referendum-2026.

The team members including Paul Kamelia and Evelin Kivima visited the Bogura Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium to observe the preparations this morning.

During the visit, they toured the process of distributing ballot papers, ballot boxes and other election materials and exchanged views with election officials on duty.

According to the District Election Office, election materials will be sent in phases to a total of 983 polling centres across 12 upazilas in Bogura. The materials are being delivered to the respective centres through presiding officers. Each centre is being supplied with all necessary election items, including ballot papers, ballot boxes, seals, stamps and forms.

Materials for 150 polling centres under Bogura Sadar Upazila are being distributed from the Upazila Parishad auditorium. The formal handover process began at 10:00 am.

Assistant Returning Officer Abdul Wazed, Additional Superintendent of Police Mostafa Manjur, and Upazila Election Officer Zayed Ibne Abul Fazal handed over the materials to the presiding officers. Members of the law enforcement agencies ensured security during the process.

Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency is considered politically significant. A total of five candidates, including BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, are contesting in this seat. Altogether 34 candidates from various political parties are contesting in the district's seven parliamentary constituencies. Participating parties include BNP, Jamaat, Islami Andolon, Jatiya Party, BASAD, CPB and others.

Bogura has 12 upazilas and 12 municipalities. The total number of voters in the seven parliamentary constituencies is 29,81,940. Of them, 14,80,871 are male voters, 15,01,007 female voters, and 42 third-gender voters. The district has a total of 5,578 polling booths, both permanent and temporary.

Assistant Returning Officer Abdul Wazed said that all preparations have been completed to ensure a free and peaceful election. Election materials are being sent to the respective centres according to the scheduled timeline. He also expressed hope that voting will be held in a festive atmosphere on Thursday.
