KHULNA, Feb 11, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 669 convicted prisoners and under-trial inmates cast their votes through the postal ballot system from 12 jails under the Khulna and Barishal divisions.
According to jail authorities, 753 prisoners and inmates applied to vote by postal ballot from these jails. Among them, 669 inmates-- representing 88.84 percent--successfully exercised their voting rights. Of the 48 female applicants, 46 cast their votes.
The information was confirmed by MdJannatulFarhad, Assistant Inspector General (Media) of the Department of Prisons.
Providing a breakdown, he said that in Khulna Jail, 151 out of 174 applicants, including five women, cast their votes. In Satkhira Jail, 24 out of 27 applicants, including six women, voted. Bagerhat Jail recorded 29 votes from 37 applicants, including two women, while Jessore Jail saw 120 votes from 129 applicants, including eight women.
In Jhenaidah Jail, 58 out of 65 applicants voted, while 28 out of 32 applicants, including two women, cast votes in Chuadanga Jail.
All 14 applicants in Meherpur Jail exercised their voting rights. In Kushtia Jail, 57 out of 69 applicants voted.
Similarly, 27 out of 29 applicants, including six women, voted in Narail Jail, while 13 out of 15 applicants, including one woman, cast votes in Magura Jail.
In Barishal Jail, 118 out of 138 applicants, including three women, voted, and 30 out of 33 applicants, including three women, cast their votes in Bhola Jail, he added.
