2,360 CCTV cameras installed in Tangail polling stations

TANGAIL, Feb 10, 2026 (BSS) - Ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election scheduled for February 12, the district administration has installed Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at all polling stations to ensure security and transparency during voting.

A total of 2,360 CCTV cameras have been set up across 1,063 polling stations in eight constituencies of the district. The cameras will provide round-the-clock surveillance of polling booths and station entrances to prevent vote rigging, centre capture, and any form of disorder on election day.

According to the District Election Office, the district has 33,34,427 voters, including 16,71,630 male voters, 16,62,772 female voters, and 25 third-gender voters. To facilitate voting, 6,341 booths (rooms) have been prepared across the polling stations. Of the total centers, 160 have been identified as risky or important, while 903 are considered ordinary.

Election officials said that CCTV coverage has been given special priority at high-risk centers. Each of the 6,341 voting booths, along with the entrances of polling stations, will be monitored live from a central control room located at the office of the Returning Officer.

Officials added that any sign of irregularities, violence, or misuse of muscle power will prompt immediate action based on CCTV evidence. In extreme cases, authorities may even suspend voting at affected centers.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanjay Kumar Mahanta said the technology would enable real-time monitoring of all polling stations. "If any chaos or irregularity is detected, prompt and necessary measures will be taken after reviewing the footage," he said.

Local voters have welcomed the initiative, expressing confidence that CCTV surveillance will significantly reduce the risk of fake voting and centre capture. Law enforcement agencies and election officials believe the use of modern technology will enhance election credibility and public trust.

The administration hopes the initiative will play a crucial role in ensuring a peaceful, fair, and transparent election in Tangail district.
