DHAKA, Feb 10, 2026 (BSS) - A high-level delegation of the European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission, led by its Chief Observer and Member of the European Parliament Ivars Ijabs, today paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman.
The 15-member EU delegation met the Jamaat Ameer at the party's central office at 11:00 am this morning. The meeting was held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, said a press release.
During the meeting, both sides discussed various issues of mutual interest between Bangladesh and the European Union. They particularly emphasized working closely to ensure that the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election is held in a free, fair and credible manner.
The two sides also expressed consensus on further strengthening and sustaining Bangladesh's constitutional and democratic institutions. The EU delegation assured that a 200-member European Union observation team would be deployed to observe Bangladesh's forthcoming national parliamentary election.
They expressed optimism that the momentum of bilateral relations, development and progress between Bangladesh and the European Union would continue in the future.
Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity and Media Department Chief Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, Jamaat's Europe spokesperson Barrister Abu Bakar Molla, noted academic Dr Zubair Ahmed, and the Jamaat Ameer's foreign affairs adviser Professor Dr Mahmudul Hasan were present at the meeting.
