THAKURGAON, Feb 10, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General and Thakurgaon-1 constituency candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that widespread interest and enthusiasm are being witnessed among voters ahead of the national election.

"We have noticed during the election campaign that there is widespread interest and enthusiasm among the people regarding the election. This enthusiasm, particularly among women, is very encouraging," he told reporters at his residence here around 11:00 am.

Mirza Fakhrul said people had been deprived of their voting rights for the last 15 to 16 years, making the upcoming election a centre of hope and aspiration for the electorate.

Referring to concerns over electoral credibility in previous polls, he said excessive rigging and election engineering in past elections had created doubt among voters about whether elections would be held properly.

"Such concerns are natural. However, apart from a couple of initial incidents, the situation has now calmed down and the overall atmosphere is good. Considering the present situation, I do not see much possibility of election engineering this time," he said.

The BNP Secretary General said his party expects the election to help restore the democratic system and revive democratic practices across the state and society.

He also described BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's election tours as highly effective, expressing hope that his messages would strengthen the party's political movement further.

He added that BNP leaders were encouraging people to exercise their voting rights freely and peacefully, stressing communal harmony.

"We are telling people that voting is their right and that Hindus and Muslims should all go to polling centres together. The administration is also conveying the same message. We are hopeful that voters will turn out in large numbers," he said.

District BNP General Secretary Poygam Ali, Al Mamun, Tarikh Adnan and other party leaders were present on the occasion.
