DHAKA, Feb 10, 2026 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) has announced restrictions on vehicle movement ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections and referendum scheduled for February 12.

According to EC directives, motorcycles will be banned nationwide from midnight tonight (Tuesday) until midnight on February 13. 

All other vehicles, including taxis, pickups, microbuses, and trucks, will be prohibited from midnight February 11 to midnight February 12.

The EC circular clarified that exemptions apply to vehicles of law enforcement agencies, armed forces, administration, authorised observers, and those engaged in emergency services such as medical supplies, health care, and newspaper delivery. 

Vehicles carrying departing or arriving passengers to and from airports, as well as long-distance passenger transport, will also be allowed with proper documentation.

Candidates and their election agents may use one small vehicle each, subject to approval and official stickers from the returning officer. 

Journalists, observers, election officials, and telecommunication service providers may also operate vehicles or motorcycles with prior approval.

District magistrates and metropolitan police commissioners have been authorised to relax restrictions on highways, ports, and major entry or exit routes as needed. 

They may also impose or ease restrictions on additional vehicles depending on local circumstances.
