DHAKA, Feb 8, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami today submitted a letter to the Election Commission (EC), seeking adequate security for its candidates, party workers and particularly women activists across the country ahead of the February 12 national parliamentary election.

A five-member Jamaat delegation placed the demand before Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon.

Speaking to reporters after submitting the letter, Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and head of its publicity and media wing Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair said the delegation informed the Election Commission about various problems Jamaat is facing ahead of the election, particularly the harassment of women activists in different areas.

"We have observed that our women activists are being harassed in many places, and in some cases, the conduct of certain members of the law enforcement agencies appears biased. Such a situation is not desirable at the final stage of the election," he said.

Addressing concerns over women's security and alleged misinformation, the Jamaat leader said a vested group is deliberately spreading fear among women voters through false propaganda, including claims that a political party is producing a large number of burqas is baseless and imaginary.

He said such propaganda is aimed at intimidating veiled and religious women voters and discouraging them from participating in the polls.

"Half of the country's voters are women. Ensuring their safety, dignity and respect is everyone's responsibility. We have urged the Commission to take visible measures so that women can come to polling centres without fear," Zubair added.

Referring to the role of the administration, he said neutrality during the election is crucial and urged the Election Commission to take action against officials who fail to maintain impartiality. "Otherwise, the credibility of the election may be questioned," he said.

Responding to a question, Zubair said Jamaat has always upheld the dignity and honour of women. He said legal action has been taken, including filing a general diary, over attempts to spread confusion through a hacked X (Former Twitter) account of the Jamaat Ameer.

He also said Jamaat's election manifesto and policy paper have prioritised women's rights and opportunities, adding that women voters are aware of the party's stance and are showing strong support.

With only three days left before the election, Zubair said the party told the Commission that without effective steps within this time, holding a free, fair and acceptable election would be difficult.

"We hope the Election Commission will discharge its constitutional responsibilities," he added.

Central Executive Council member Mobarak Hossain, Barrister Saifuddin Khaled and journalist Oliullah Noman were also present on the occasion.
