JOYPURHAT, Feb 8, 2026 (BSS) - An election preparatory meeting involving around 3,500 members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) was held at the District Stadium ground on Sunday morning.
The meeting began at 10:30am and was chaired by Mohammad Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan, District Commander of Joypurhat Ansar and Village Defence Force.
Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force, Major General Sajjad Mahmud attended the meeting virtually as the chief guest and addressed the members.
Among others present at the meeting were Akkelpur Upazila Ansar and VDP Officer Salma Khatun, Khetlal Upazila Ansar and VDP Officer Rubel Islam, Kalai Upazila Ansar and VDP Officer Abdul Qadir, Sadar Upazila Ansar and VDP Officer Mahbubuuzzaman, and Pachbibi Upazila Ansar and VDP member Kashem Ali.
Speaking to BSS, District Commander Mohammad Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan said that about 3,500 Ansar-VDP members will be deployed across Joypurhat district to ensure the upcoming election in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
He said that 13 Ansar-VDP members will be responsible for maintaining law and order at each polling station, while two members will be assigned to every polling centre. In addition, three armed Ansar-VDP members will be deployed at important centres. Two strike forces will also remain on round-the-clock duty in each upazila.
The district commander added that all Ansar-VDP members on duty will remain connected through mobile applications. They have been instructed to immediately inform the district authorities through the app or mobile phone if any problem arises in maintaining law and order.
