DHAKA, Feb 7, 2026 (BSS) - A documentary titled ‘Smiles before Everything' has brought to light the largely unknown humanitarian side of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, showcasing his long-standing compassion for distressed people, helpless families and even neglected animals.

The documentary premiered this afternoon at Star Cineplex in SKS Tower, Mohakhali, where speakers shared their reactions following the screening. Many in the audience said they were emotionally moved by the film, which reveals humanitarian initiatives carried out quietly and without publicity.

‘Smiles before Everything' is the first documentary made on Tarique Rahman and is directed by Zubaer Babu. The audience at the premiere included politicians, teachers, actors, singers and people from various walks of life.

Speaking as the chief guest, BNP national standing committee member and chairman of the BNP central election steering committee Nazrul Islam Khan said that even senior party leaders were largely unaware of Tarique Rahman's long-running humanitarian efforts.

"For years, he has worked for people and animals without seeking recognition," Khan said. "As shown in the documentary, many beneficiaries did not even know who was behind the assistance they received. This film has revealed that quiet humanitarian side of him."

Mohammad Ismail Jabirullah, a member of the BNP Chairman's Advisory Council and Chief Coordinator of the Central Election Steering Committee, said he initially expected a political film.

"After watching the documentary, I was amazed. The unknown humanitarian side of Tarique Rahman has come to light through this work," he said.

Director Zubaer Babu, also a member of the BNP Central Election Steering Committee, said the documentary was not intended as political propaganda.

"Smiles before Everything tells the story of a person who, despite the pressures of politics, has worked silently to bring smiles to countless faces," he said, adding that Tarique Rahman's empathy and humanitarian initiatives for both people and animals were the main inspiration behind the film.

Guests at the premiere praised the documentary's subject matter and production quality, describing it as timely and meaningful. Many noted that the film would serve as an important record for future generations, highlighting a lesser-known aspect of a prominent political figure.
