SYLHET, Feb 07, 2026 (BSS)- Principal Information Officer (PIO) Nizamul Kabir today said media professionals must play a responsible and significant role in the upcoming National Parliament Election and the referendum.
“Responsible journalism on any important national issue help the state to run in the right direction,” he said while virtually addressing a workshop for media personnel on the referendum and 13th National Parliament Election here.
The Department of Information with the Sylhet Regional Information Office organized the workshop on the occasion of the upcoming national election.
He said PID has prepared various awareness contents on the national election, TV commercials and theme songs. Songs in eight regional languages of the eight divisions are being broadcast, alongside campaigns on the national election, referendum and postal ballot.
He said, the department is organising seminars, workshops and view exchange meetings with media professionals in different divisions of the country.
He further said youths are enthusiastic about the referendum. This enthusiasm must be properly utilized through collective efforts to ensure the national election and the referendum are held in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
At the same time, rural people and women should be encouraged to go to polling centres and exercise their voting rights, he said.
The PIO said curiosity has grown among the people about what the referendum is, why it is being held and how to vote. Therefore, the benefits of the referendum and the national election, as well as the code of conduct, must be presented to the public in a simple and easily understandable manner.
With Deputy Principal Information Officer Hasina Akter in the chair, Additional Principal Information Officer Yakub Ali, Deputy Principal Information Officers Nasreen Jahan Lipi and Molla Ahmad Qutubuddin conducted different sessions at the workshop.
Journalists from electronic media and various national daily newspapers shared their opinions and election-related experiences at the workshop.
