RANGAMATI, Feb 7, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 20 platoons of Border Guard
Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in seven upazilas-- two upazilas in
Chattogram district and five in Rangamati district, to ensure security during
the upcoming elections.
The BGB members have begun duties from seven base camps and are providing
security at 267 polling stations across the concerned areas. The deployment
covers five upazilas--Kaptai, Kaukhali, Rajasthali, Jurachhari and
Bilaichhari-- of Rangamati district and two upazilas-- Raozan and Rangunia--
of Chattogram district.
Kaptai Zone Commander Lieutenant Colonel Kawsar Mehdi confirmed the matter to
BSS, stating that the platoons from Kaptai Battalion (41 BGB) are actively
performing election-related duties.
He said BGB members are conducting regular patrols and setting up check posts
at key locations to search vehicles and suspicious individuals in order to
prevent any form of sabotage. Modern technology, including drones and body-
worn cameras, is being used during patrols to strengthen surveillance.
Each polling station is under round-the-clock monitoring through day and
night patrols, Lt Col Mehdi said, adding, "Continuous communication is being
maintained with local administration and officials to ensure the overall law
and order situation remains stable."
Considering the importance of Raozan and Rangunia upazilas of Chattogram
district--both densely populated areas with a large number of polling
stations--special security measures have been taken in coordination with the
army, other law enforcement agencies and the civil administration, he said.
He further mentioned that polling stations in all five upazilas of the
Rangamati parliamentary constituencies have also been placed under constant
surveillance. Regular patrols are being conducted, and round-the-clock
communication is being maintained with local residents to ensure public
safety throughout the election period.
