BGB tightens security in Panchhari, Dighinala ahead of Feb 12 polls

DHAKA, Feb 6, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has strengthened security measures in Panchhari and Dighinala upazilas ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election to ensure a peaceful, fair and orderly voting environment.

According to a BGB press release, the Panchhari Battalion (3 BGB) has reinforced overall security across the 21.8-kilometre border area under its jurisdiction.

As part of election preparations, four base camps were established in Panchhari Upazila on January 30. In addition, six platoons of BGB members have been deployed to provide security at 27 remote polling stations.

Special emphasis has been placed on hard-to-reach areas. Round-the-clock security has been ensured at a heli-supported polling station located in the remote hilly region of Naraichhari under Dighinala Upazila.

BGB members are conducting regular domination patrols using vehicles, foot patrols, and river routes to maintain a strong security presence throughout the area.

To enhance surveillance and rapid response capabilities, modern technologies such as drone surveillance, body-worn cameras, and advanced riot control equipment are being used in and around polling centres.

In addition, search operations have been intensified through the establishment of two check posts at the Logang BGB Camp and the Gilatoli Border Outpost (BOP).

Alongside security operations, BGB is also carrying out public relations and awareness activities, risk assessments, and coordinated patrols with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that voters can exercise their franchise without fear or obstruction.

Nationwide, more than 37,000 BGB members have been deployed across 489 upazilas -- excluding six coastal upazilas -- for election and referendum duties, the release said. Of them, BGB is solely responsible for election security in 61 border upazilas.
