BAGERHAT, Feb 6, 2026 (BSS) - 11-party alliance nominated candidate for Bagerhat-2 constituency Sheikh Manjurul Haque Rahad today said no leniency will be shown to those involved in oppressing minorities, forcibly occupying people's property, extortion, or intimidating voters.

He said steps would be taken to ensure peace and order in the area so that people can live safely and carry out their business activities without fear.

Sheikh Manjurul Haque Rahad made the remarks while addressing an election rally organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the Samman Kathi Eidgah ground in Moghia Union of Kachua Upazila on Friday afternoon, where he spoke as the chief guest.

The rally, organized by Moghia Union Jamaat-e-Islami, was presided over by Union President Md. Enayetullah and conducted by Union Secretary Maulana Md. Ali.

In his address, Rahad said there were allegations of torture against Hindu families in several areas of Moghia Union, leaving many of them living in fear. He alleged that after the historic August 5, the enclosures of several ordinary people were forcibly occupied, severely affecting their livelihoods.

He also mentioned reports of coconuts and betel nuts being forcibly plucked from private gardens. In addition, allegations were raised about false cases being filed against innocent people and continued harassment. The issue of extortion from various families, including businessmen, was also discussed at the rally.

Sheikh Manjurul Haque Rahad said many families remain fearful and panicked, adding that allegations of threats to prevent people from voting in the upcoming election are a matter of concern and could undermine a free and peaceful electoral environment.

Speakers at the public meeting also drew attention to weaknesses in the healthcare system in Moghia Union, as well as the lack of quality educational institutions and madrasas.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Bagerhat District Secretary Sheikh Mohammad Yunus spoke as a special guest.
