Chopper to be used to send polls materials in Khagrachari’s remote areas

KHAGRACHARI, Feb 6, 2026 (BSS) – Choppers will be used for sending election materials and election officers to the risky and more risky voting centres in Khagrachari during the upcoming national elections scheduled for February 12.
 
“We have sent a list of the risky and more risky voting centres in Khagrachari parliamentary constituency to the Election Commission for taking necessary measures,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Sayem Mirza Mahmud said.

Voting materials and election officials will be flown to three centres in the following areas - Naraichari in Dighinala upazila, Futyachhari and Shuknachari centres of Barmachhari union in Laxmichari upazila, the SP said. 

He said that police will identify the centres as risky based on its remote geographical location, location of voters, influence of candidates and law and order situation.

Authorities concerned have identified 68 polling centres as more vulnerable in the district, out of 203 centres. Of the 68 risky centres, 16 centres are in Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila.

The EC said that more risky voting centres include 11 in Ramgarh, 10 in Guimara, nine in Manikchhari, eight in Mahalchhari, five in Matiranga, four in Dighinala, three in Panchhari and two in Laxmichari.

According to EC, 40,486 people were registered in 16 centres of Sadar Upazila, 27,731 in 11 centres of Ramgarh Upazila, 27,264 in 10 centres of Guimara Upazila, 23,382 in 9 centres of Manikchhari Upazila, 20,534 in 8 centres of Mahalchhari Upazila, 13,699 in 5 centres of Matiranga Upazila, 11,018 in 4 centres of Dighinala Upazila, 6,653 in 3 centres of Panchhari Upazila and 2,238 in 2 centres of Laxmichari Upazila. 

Khagrachari District Election Officer SM Shahadat Hossain said that these centres have been identified risky based on the observations of the District Special Branch (DSB) of police. 

The special branch of the police has identified centres into three categories - the normal, risky and high-risk centres. 

“We will take all kinds of initiatives for peaceful voting. Some problems will be resolved through the local administration,” he said.
