BNP polls rally held in Bagerhat-2 constituency

BAGERHAT, Feb 4, 2026 (BSS) - An election rally of the BNP-nominated parliamentary candidate for the Bagerhat-2 constituency were held today.

The rally, organized at the Basabati Amtola ground of Bagerhat Municipality, drew a large crowd of BNP supporters. 

Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, the BNP candidate contesting with the sheaf of paddy symbol from the Bagerhat Sadar-1 constituency, attended the rally as the chief guest. The event was presided over by Ward No. 8 BNP President Sheikh Faizul Haque Montu.

Addressing the rally, Barrister Zakir said the BNP believes that "religion belongs to everyone and law belongs to everyone," adding that he would stand beside people of all religions to protect their rights.

He said that if elected, Bagerhat would be transformed into a modern, planned and livable city. To achieve this, he pledged to improve roads and drainage systems, ensure a safe water supply, reduce municipal taxes, build a drug-free society and bring overall development to municipal infrastructure.

The BNP candidate also promised to clear canals of encroachment and renovate them, establish secondary schools in the Basabati area, excavate ponds, remove illegal structures, and turn Bagerhat into an industrial city by creating employment opportunities for unemployed youth.

He expressed his commitment to working in unity for the welfare of the country and the nation.

Earlier in the day, Barrister Zakir carried out mass contact in his home area of Shatgumbaj Union in support of his candidacy. He later attended two separate election meetings in Moghia Union of Kachua upazila and at the Andharmanik School ground in the afternoon.

At the conclusion of the programme, special prayers were offered seeking eternal peace for the soul of late BNP Chairperson and three-time Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
