TANGAIL, Feb 4, 2026 (BSS) – Describing the upcoming national polls on February 12 as an election to build a new Bangladesh, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and chief of the 11-party alliance Dr Shafiqur Rahman today said the election will be held on the blood of nearly 1,400 martyrs and in memory of the 34,000 injured in the July Mass Uprising.

“It will not be like any previous polls. It would reflect the grief of the families of the July Uprising martyrs, and the nation will reclaim its rights in the February 12 election,” he said.

Speaking at an election rally organised by Tangail district Jamaat-e-Islami at the Shaheed Smriti Municipal Park this afternoon, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said citizens must view the election from this perspective.

“We have a historic responsibility in this election, and on February 12, a free and fair election will allow the nation to reclaim its rights,” he added.

Regarding the referendum, the Jamaat Ameer said there are two votes. The first is for ‘Yes’ and if the ‘Yes’ vote wins, Bangladesh will succeed, if the ‘No’ vote wins, the country will fail.

“‘Yes’ represents freedom, ‘No’ represents slavery. Many had not spoken before; now those supporting ‘Yes’ are demonstrating that they reject extortion, corruption, misuse of cases, and disrespect to mothers and sisters. They stand with the new Bangladesh and the aspirations of July 24,” he further said.

He said the second vote concerns nation-building. The future government should be led by those who have proven themselves honest, while those repeatedly involved in corruption should no longer be entrusted with power, he said.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman noted that 11 parties have united to build a new Bangladesh and each party will work sincerely, maintaining its dignity, to secure victory.

Addressing the youth, he said, “Those who fought bravely before will achieve victory on February 12 as well. You fought for your right to work. We promise to provide you with education and training to empower your hands, InshaAllah.”

During the rally, Dr Rahman presented the party and allied candidates of Tangail’s eight constituencies with election symbols, including the Dari  Palla (weighing scales) and Shapla Koli (water lily bud).

The rally, presided over by Tangail district Jamaat Ameer Ahsan Habib Masud, also was also addressed by district Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Prof Khandakar Abdur Razzak, district Jamaat Secretary Md Humayun Kabir, NCP Dhaka divisional organisational secretary Saifullah Haider, and leaders and candidates of Jamaat-e-Islami and allied parties.

Earlier, party activists marched from various upazilas to the rally venue, carrying banners, festoons and placards, chanting slogans and turning the municipal park into a hub of political enthusiasm.
