NARAYANGANJ, Feb 3, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 72 prisoners of Narayanganj District Jail will cast their votes through postal ballots in the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections.
District Jailor Md Ferdous Miah said that 92 inmates had applied for postal ballots to participate in the parliamentary polls, but ballots have so far been received for only 72 voters. He expressed hope that the remaining 20 ballots would arrive soon and said their votes would be accepted later following directives from the Election Commission.
According to the jail authorities, there are currently 1,773 prisoners in Narayanganj District Jail. Of them, 92 registered to vote through the postal ballot system. Among the 72 prisoners who have already received ballots, seven are women and the rest are men.
To facilitate voting, three secret booths have been set up inside the jail premises—two for male voters and one for female voters. Voting will take place from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Md Ferdous Miah also said that a link from the District Election Commission is expected to be received tomorrow, after which the voting process can officially begin.
He added that prison officials and employees will also be eligible to vote this year through postal ballots, though he himself has not yet received his ballot. He reiterated hope that the remaining ballots for the prisoners would arrive soon to ensure all registered voters can exercise their franchise in line with Election Commission instructions.
