DINAJPUR, Jan 3, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate for Dinajpur-3 constituency Syed Jahangir Alam has said whenever BNP formed the government, it worked to take Bangladesh to the pinnacle of development for the welfare of the people.

Addressing two separate roadside election rallies at Jagarani Mor and Terminal Road areas of Dinajpur town on Monday night, Jahangir Alam, a BNP central executive committee member and three-time municipality mayor, described the paddy sheaf as the shield of Bangladesh and a symbol of development.

He highlighted the BNP's efforts in government were always directed towards achieving the golden peak of development for the nation.

A large number of male and female voters, party leaders, activists and supporters joined the roadside rallies.

Jahangir Alam said BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, worthy son of the party's founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister and party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, have pledged to provide family cards to every family, waive microcredit loans and arrange allowances for imams, muazzins and khadems.

He said he was jailed under the Awami League government over allegations related to distribution of 500 grams of VGF rice during Eid-ul-Azha, but after his release, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman nominated him with the 'Paddy of Sheaf' symbol to stand by the people.

Jahangir Alam pledged that if voters elect him, he would ensure development of Dinajpur town and 10 unions of Sadar upazila, as he did during his tenure as mayor.

He alleged that during the Awami League period, allocations for development were shown on paper but later withdrawn, which hindered his work.

"Today the key is in your hands. By casting a single vote, give me the opportunity to develop Dinajpur," he said, adding that he always dreamt of developing Dinajpur and would implement that dream if elected.

At the central bus terminal rally, Poura BNP General Secretary Md Mahiuddin Mondal Babul urged voters to unite and vote for the paddy sheaf to strengthen Jahangir Alam's hands for development.

District BNP President Advocate Mofazzal Hossain Dulal said Jahangir Alam has never faced defeat in elections. "The country is now in deep crisis. To save the nation, voters must vote for the paddy sheaf to accelerate the development process," he added.

Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam Bangladesh Dinajpur district President Maulana Matiur Rahman Qasemi urged voters to cast their votes in favour of the paddy sheaf symbol.

District BNP Senior Vice-President Mokarram Hossain, Vice-Presidents Abu Bakkar Siddique and Akhtaruzzaman Jewel, Sports Affairs Secretary Mamunur Rashid, Poura BNP President Ziaur Rahman Zia, Poura BNP Organising Secretary Abdul Kaiyum, along with leaders and activists of district BNP, Poura BNP and its associate bodies were present.

The rally was chaired by Ward Poura BNP President Md Ayub Ali, while Ward BNP General Secretary Afzal Khan conducted the rally.
