CHATTOGRAM, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS) - Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said the people of Chattogram will take right decision on February 12 and those who envisioned a new Bangladesh will bring the 11-party alliance to power.
“The journey that began with Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) has now reached Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JACSU), and history will be made on February 12,” said the Jamaat chief while speaking an election rally at Sitakunda Government High School ground in Chattogram.
“I believe that the people of Bir Chattala will make the right decision. Jamaat-e-Islami, including myself, does not seek power; we believe that the power should belong to the 18 crore people. We aim to distribute resources equitably in the state. Those who envision a new Bangladesh from February 12th will bring the 11-party alliance to power,” he added.
He said the era of giving votes on behalf of others is over, and now each individual must cast their own vote. He also asserted that if anyone tries to take away any one’s vote, must be resisted.
Addressing the crowd in their local dialect the Jamaat chief greeted them and highlighted the importance of respecting mothers. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized the need to honor and value mothers as they are the pillars of society.
“A few days ago, a campaign was launched against me, but it will not benefit them as they will only trap themselves. The reason for this campaign is my stance against corruption,” he said.
In July, the slogan "We Want Justice" resonated across the country, he said, adding, “The message was clear: take what is rightfully yours and give me what is mine. Those who attempt to buy votes with money bring shame to humanity. The recent university elections have shown that the educated youth of the country reject such practices”.
Shafiqur Rahman emphasized that they do not seek a party government or a dynasty, but rather a government that represents all 18 crore people. At the conclusion of his speech, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman introduced the candidates for the seven seats in Chattogram North.
Organised by Chattogram North District Jamaat-e-Islami, the meeting was chaired by its Ameer Alauddin Sikder.
The event was attended by Assistant Secretary of Central Jamaat Maulana Mohammad Shahjahan, former Ameer of North District Jamaat Principal Amiruzzaman, Professor Nurul Amin Chowdhury, North District Sramik President Yusuf Bin Abu Bakr, and various constituency candidates including Advocate Saifur Rahman, Principal Nurul Amin, Anwar Siddique Chowdhury, Nasir Uddin Monir, Shahjahan Manju, Dr. ATM Rezaul Karim, as well as traditional representative Dolon Deb.
