COX'S BAZAR, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS) - Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today said the ongoing political movement is focused on ensuring justice and dignity for the people of Bangladesh, rather than securing power for any single party or group.

Speaking at an election rally at Cox's Bazar-2 (Maheshkhali-Kutubdia) constituency as the chief guest, he said, "The country needs honest, patriotic, and people-oriented leadership to meet the aspirations of youth, women, and future generations."

Dr Shafiqur Rahman paid tribute to those who were killed and injured during the July movement, including martyr Tanvir Siddiqui, and said their sacrifices helped the nation overcome a period of severe political crisis.

Highlighting the economic potential of Maheshkhali and Kutubdia, the Jamaat chief said that projects like Matarbari deep-sea port, economic zones, and energy initiatives could turn the area into a major economic hub and create large-scale employment if implemented effectively.

He said that if the people elect the 10-party alliance, the government would address local challenges to improve livelihoods and raise the standard of living.

"Young people want justice, dignity, and decent job opportunities, not allowances," he said, adding that the future government must focus on creating honourable employment instead of providing unemployment allowances.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman alleged that massive public funds had been laundered abroad and said those responsible must face justice. He pledged that recovered money would be used for equitable development, with priority for deprived and underdeveloped areas.

"We are committed to ensuring the dignity, safety, and security of women at home, in public spaces, and workplaces. Employment opportunities will be offered based on merit and patriotism, regardless of religion," he said.

Calling for national unity, he urged voters to remain vigilant against vote manipulation and vote 'Yes' in the referendum in favor of justice, transparency, and good governance to build a united and prosperous Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General A. H. M. Hamidur Rahman Azad has been nominated as the Jamaat-led alliance candidate for Cox's Bazar-2 constituency.
